She brings a bio-psycho-social approach to health that integrates multiple therapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, and an interest in motivation and change behaviour. Most importantly, she is passionate about women’s mental health and believes that we are each worthy of a fulfilling life and the grace involved in living that out.

Originally from the West Coast, she has settled with her family in Calgary and enjoys skating, biking and heading out to the mountains. She is at her most joyful when dancing around the house with her family, celebrating and exploring new things. About Dr. Smith:

Dr. Linda Smith has been a comprehensive family physician for over 21 years, and for most of that time, she had a longitudinal practice incorporating advanced skills in skin care, maternity care, and counselling. Dr. Smith has long enjoyed incorporating psychotherapy into her practice.

Her advice on finding a psychotherapist is that choosing someone with whom you feel comfortable and safe is often more important than the approaches and therapies that are used. With that in mind, she practices a mix of Satir transformational systems therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, and others, using body-based and emotionally focused therapy skills.

Dr. Smith attended the University of Ottawa for medical school and completed her residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Alberta. She is a Fellow with the College of Family Physicians of Canada and an Assistant Clinical Professor with the University of Alberta.

Her grounding philosophy is that we are all doing our best with the resources we have available to us. She is passionate about helping people learn how to help themselves. She works with her patients so they can learn to hold and heal themselves, and deal with the tensions we live with - joy and grief, acceptance and frustration, independence and connection.

In addition to her professional work, Dr. Smith enjoys travel, live music, and most things outdoors.
